It is a book that you will delight in reading to your primary class, just make sure you take the time to share Deb&#8217;s wonderful use of fonts with your audience. If you could get multiple copies of the book, it would be interesting to have children read some sections aloud in small groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kerry and I were fortunate enough to chat to Deb about this book and the writing process in general. What a fabulous experience. Take a listen&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"buzzsprout-player-15216984\"><\/div><script src=\"https:\/\/www.buzzsprout.com\/2052306\/15216984-episode-31-interview-with-deb-abela.js?container_id=buzzsprout-player-15216984&#038;player=small\" type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Story Corps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8216;Story Detectives&#8217; in <em>The Kindness Project <\/em> reminded me of Story Corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Story Corps is an American based group whose mission is to help us believe in each other by illuminating the&nbsp;humanity and possibility in us all \u2014 one story at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Celebrating 20 Years of StoryCorps\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VQ4v2DjNelo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beauty and Truth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a lovely thinking routine I use called <em><strong>Beauty and Truth<\/strong><\/em>. It encourages us to look for the beauty and truth in situations. I have used the following Story Corps clip for this routine. You can download them <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn2.penguin.com.au\/content\/resources\/tn-the-kindness-project.pdf\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her notes, she listed the following pre-reading questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Is there a particular character who stands out on the cover for you? Why do you think you picked that character? <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>How many characters can you see? What kind of personalities do you think they might have and how do you think they might fit into the story<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was then that I realised that I hadn&#8217;t actually made the link between the cover image and characters!! (I&#8217;m putting that down to being too excited to get to the text). What I realised is that none of the characters resembled how I had visualised them. DJ was much bigger and Layla didn&#8217;t look as confident in my mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes me think about how a character&#8217;s journey and experiences throughout a story will change how we &#8216;see&#8217; them.
