They are ready to explore. History tells us what happened next. Imagine if we could go back in time and share this knowledge with them.<br \/>\nWhat would we tell them? What difference could we make?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em><strong>If they only knew\u2026..<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students are required to research early Australian explorers and examine stories of their expeditions to discover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>where funding comes from for an expedition<\/li>\n<li>skills an explorer needs (and the value of those skills) that will enable them to lead a successful expedition<\/li>\n<li>equipment\/items\/people needed for an expedition<\/li>\n<li>the reward an explorer can expect (personally and for the colony) if they are successful<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students work in mixed ability groups of 4, with each member of the group focusing their research on the history of exploration in one of the following directions:<\/p>\n<p>Crossing the mountains<br \/>\nSouth to north<br \/>\nEast to west<br \/>\nThe river system<\/p>\n<p>Students research independently but may interact with members from other groups that are researching a similar \u2018direction\u2019.<br \/>\nStudents share their findings with their own group\u00a0then together they identify skills\/equipment\/facts common for exploration in all 4 directions, and\u00a0construct one final checklist for explorers.<\/p>\n<p>As a whole class compare the checklists from each group to identify similarities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/storiesinlearning.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/smore.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-212 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/storiesinlearning.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/09\/smore.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Smore\" width=\"300\" height=\"110\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Students presented their individual research findings using the online program Smore (https:\/\/www.smore.com\/app)<\/p>\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">KLA Outcomes (NSW)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>English:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>EN3-3A<\/strong> Uses an integrated range of skills, strategies and knowledge to read, view and comprehend a wide range of texts in different media and technologies<br \/>\n<em>Content: Select, navigate and read texts for a range of purposes, applying appropriate text processing strategies and interpreting structural features (table of contents, glossary, chapters, headings and subheadings<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>HSIE:<br \/>\nHT3-1 <\/strong>Describes and explains the significance of people, groups, places and events to the development of Australia.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Technology<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>21st CLD: <\/strong>Collaboration<\/p>\n<p><strong>ISTE: <\/strong>Research and Information Fluency<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program<\/strong>: Smore<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Task: It is 1810 and the locals are keen to find out what Australia has to offer beyond Sydney Cove.
