It first came to my attention when my son had to study it as a text for his Year 12 English course.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1433\" src=\"https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices-768x911.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices-510x605.jpg 510w, https:\/\/mrsbarkerstearoom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Voices.jpg 828w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Voices in the Park\u00a0<\/em>tells the story of a visit to a local park, from the perspective of different characters.\u00a0 The story is broken into 4 parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Voice 1: Charles&#8217; Mum<\/li>\n<li>Voice 2: Smudge&#8217;s Dad<\/li>\n<li>Voice 3: Charles<\/li>\n<li>Voice 4: Smudge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The text highlights how we can perceive situations differently and may form opinions based on limited knowledge and understanding. Helping our students to appreciate situations from different viewpoints is a step towards developing children that have empathetic understanding and tolerance.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Browne has excellent resources on his website to support this text. A great study in how music influences mood. Possibly Albert, Smudge&#8217;s dog or a character of their own creation?<\/p>\n<p>You may like to discuss the book from a creative art perspective.<\/p>\n<p><em>How does the language,\u00a0 font and the style of artwork change for each voice?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As you explore the concept of\u00a0<strong>perspective<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>further, you might like to try the Visible Thinking Routine\u00a0\u00a0<em><strong>Step Inside<\/strong>: <strong>Perceive, Know About, Care About<\/strong><\/em><strong>.<\/strong> &#8216;<em>This routine helps students to explore different perspectives and viewpoints as they try to\u00a0imagine things, events, problems, or issues differently. In some cases this can lead to a more\u00a0creative understanding of what is being studied<\/em>&#8216;.
