The\u00a0<em>Beauty and Truth\u00a0<\/em>routine encourages us to to take time to reflect upon the true meaning revealed or concealed, in the information we encounter. At a conference at Bialik College (Melbourne) I was asked to watch the clip below and list three responses for the following questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Can you find beauty in this story?<\/li>\n<li>Can you find truth in it?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After completing the task I had to sit with another person and share my thinking This task forced me to see an incident from different perspectives. It absolutely broadened my thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the video and write 3 things of beauty you see in the story and 3 truths it reveals for you.<\/p>\n<p>How do your responses compare to mine?<\/p>\n<p>Beauty:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They had an opportunity to say\u00a0<em>I love you and\u00a0<\/em>an opportunity to hear\u00a0<em>I love you<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The father found peace<\/li>\n<li>The father was proud of his children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Truth<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We may suffer because of the misguided actions of others<\/li>\n<li>Service people risk their life everyday for us<\/li>\n<li>2 sons lost<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"John and Joe\" width=\"790\" height=\"444\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yfWa9gI-Bks?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This routine would be a great way to invite your students into a deeper conversation on a given concept.<\/p>\n<p>The clip is from a website called\u00a0<em>Story Corps (<a href=\"https:\/\/storycorps.org\/\">https:\/\/storycorps.org<\/a>).\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0On the website they state their purpose:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><big>StoryCorps\u2019 mission is to preserve and share humanity\u2019s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. We<\/big><\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><big>\u00a0do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone\u2019s story matters.
