We have been having great fun exploring the Windows 8 app – Kids Story Builder. Kids Story Builder is a simple to use e-book creator that allows the user to insert their own photos, text and audio. It is a great tool for creating personalised ‘social stories’ for students with special needs.
The sample included uses the story “Jeremy’s Tail’ by Duncan Ball. It is a simple response to the picture book. Perhaps the students could paint an image of themselves visiting another country, photograph their artwork and use those images to create a story, adding text to describe a feature of their country.
The story file has been saved as a PowerPoint presentation. Whilst there are some changes to format when the story is saved in this way, it allows viewers that do not have the app to still enjoy the work.
